There are cases that make external hard disk not detected how to recover data? Several days ago, when I plugged my external hard disk to my laptop, it is not detected. The external hard disk brand is Transcend. The capacity of the external hard disk is 500 GB.

In that day, I keep questioning the google about external hard disk not detected how to recover data?. I could not find the perfect way to restore it. What happened to my external hard disk is actually simple. I made 3 partition on the external hard disk. Two of the volumes were OK, but one of the volumes was not detected. I thought this was because when it was scanned by specific anti virus, I force plugged out it.

I was really upset. The external hard disk partition that was not detected was the most important volume. It contained my works and all important private files.

So, this external hard disk not detected how to recover data? I tried so many ways but it kept failing. Then, I started the Window Command Prompt by Run as Administrator. Then I run the command CHKDSK, including the /F. It replied me with “Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process“. Oh My God!!! I did not know what to do at that time.

As you see on the picture above. The command prompt ask me the question “would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)”. Well, my answer was “Y”. I have no choice. So, I restarted the windows, then it directly did the CHKDSK. This meant good. After for a while, the process finished. Then I can open the volume of the missing external hard disk again.

After the volume is detected, I made back up for all files. I learned that we should make back up for all of these files. So, that is all I can tell you about this case. If you have any comment or question, please ask.
