However, there is more fluctuation than that might imply. To reduce Total Float while keeping the same start and end deadlines, you can modify Total Float options. There are three ways to calculate Total Float, some of which will be smaller than others.
Open your project in Primavera P6.
Select “Schedule” from the “Tools” menu.
Click “Options,” and then the “General” tab.
Choose a new selection under “Calculate total float as.” The options are “Most critical,” “Start float” and “Finish float.” For most projects “Most critical” would give you the smallest float, since it only includes the phase(s) of the project you have marked as critical.
Click “OK” to save the Total Float information.
